DB2 11.1 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows makes it easier to choose the edition with the capabilities and tools required to meet your organization’s data management needs:
- DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition
- DB2 Enterprise Server Edition
- DB2 Advanced Workgroup Server Edition
- DB2 Workgroup Server Edition
- DB2 Direct Advanced Edition
- DB2 Direct Standard Edition
- DB2 for Big Data
- DB2 Developer Edition
With this packaging structure you choose one or two DB2 Editions that fulfill all of your enterprise’s data management requirements. For example, DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition and DB2 Advanced Workgroup Server Edition can be deployed in a single-server or multi-server clustered environment and can handle OLTP, warehouse, and mixed workloads. As a result, both the DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition and DB2 Advanced Workgroup Server Edition give you deployment flexibility without having to compromise on function or performance.
Hassle-free DB2 Edition upgrades
If you already use DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows and would like to upgrade to a more functional edition, certain DB2 11.1 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows editions share a common install image. This means that you can move between those DB2 editions with a simple license key update. You do not need to install new DB2 code on these DB2 11.1 edition upgrades. Furthermore, test cycles are reduced because the edition upgrade unlocks new capabilities in your existing DB2 installation. The following upgrade paths can all be achieved with a license update. To acquire the appropriate trade-up license entitlement, trade-up parts corresponding to these paths are available for purchase.
|Source edition||Target edition|
|DB2 Workgroup Server Edition||DB2 Advanced Workgroup Server Edition
DB2 Enterprise Server Edition
|DB2 Enterprise Server Edition||DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition|
Supporting program information
Previous versions of DB2 listed as a supporting program for any DB2 11.1 Edition can be used instead of the DB2 11.1 program, provided the cumulative deployment of DB2 is within the customer’s entitlements of DB2. For supporting programs included as part of DB2 11.1, support and maintenance for the supporting programs are included as part of Software Subscription and Support for DB2 11.1, and will only be available until the announced end of support date for the listed supporting program. Therefore, the supporting program may not be supported for the full support period of DB2 11.1. After the end of support date for the supporting program, extended support for the supporting program may be available for purchase.

Get a unified view of your heterogeneous data with DB2 11.1
DB2 11.1 now includes data federation and virtualization through a robust SQL interface and a full relational database engine designed for global optimization of data access. This capability offers homogeneous or heterogeneous federation (depending on the DB2 Edition) between select IBM and non-IBM database products. You can quickly prototype and implement solutions involving disparate databases by virtualizing access and optimizing performance. Data can remain in place for both transactional as well as analytical workloads.
